Definition:
Orthotics are prescription devices issued by Podiatrists to help restore a more natural function of the joints of the foot throughout walking or running.

Types:
There are 2 main types – Soft and Hard
Each has their own pros and cons.

Soft: Often these are the Orthotics of choice for athletes

Function by contacting the Rearfoot, Midfoot or Forefoot to achieve restoration.
Are very lightweight
Are Soft to walk and run on
Easily adjustable
Fit into most forms of shoes
Less expensive than their harder relatives.

Hard:

Function by targeting the Rearfoot’s joints, namely the sub-talar joint.
Are very durable
Excellent for controlling the foot for heavy Rearfoot contact.
Coathanger shape can fit those smaller ladies court style shoes.
